First Weekend of Summer

Late Night Bedtimes, Midnight Cupcakes & Cinnamon Rolls

Well, we made it through the first weekend of the summer holidays—and honestly? It hasn’t gone too badly!

Yes, I let the kids stay up way past bedtime. Midnight kind of became our new routine (oops), and although my 3-year-old gave it her best shot, she was out by 10. My oldest? She made it—barely. But let’s just say her attitude the next day reminded me exactly why bedtime exists in the first place 😅.

Somehow, I ended up baking cupcakes at 11pm Saturday night and cinnamon rolls around 10pm on Sunday. I couldn’t tell you how or why, but the smell of sugar and cinnamon floating through the flat gave me a little comfort. These small, unexpected moments are starting to feel like our new normal.

I’ve still been working on my projects and trying to find employment. That hasn’t stopped. But for the first time in a while, I feel a bit less stressed about how we’re going to fill the summer days. I realised the pressure to “make it magical” was only making me feel more defeated. Because truthfully, our budget is tight, and we can’t do much outside of the basics.

But that’s okay.

We’ve found so much joy in the little things—painting nails, wearing face masks, watching films with the lights off and popcorn in hand. No tickets required, no money spent. Just us.

 Reflection

Sometimes, the best memories aren’t planned. They’re made in the late-night baking sessions, the giggles on the sofa, and the sleepy cuddles. Don’t let the pressure of a “perfect” summer rob you of the beauty in the ordinary.

🌸 Affirmation

We don’t need much to be happy—just love, laughter, and each other.
